The biggest transfer coup in the history of the world (well OK, in League 1) is to be announced tomorrow from 'Only Good News FC.' Formerly know as Nottingham Forest
Of course it could all turn out to be the biggest Internet windup, in the history of Internet windups. But if rumours are to be believed, then Andy Cole will be unveiled as a Forest player tomorrow.
The story has been doing the rounds for a good few weeks now and has built up to such a frenzy on the message boards that even I (the ultimate sceptic) am starting to believe that this is actually going to happen.
The news was first unveiled to howls of derision, but has since been given some credence by virtue of the fact that the sources from whence it came, have been proved faultless in the past. If Nottinghams' prodigal son does come home, it will see Forest throw down the gauntlet to the rest of League 1 and show the clubs' intent at hauling it's weary ass out of this graveyard. He won't come cheap though, as rumours suggest a pay packet of anything from 10K-22K per week!
Cole spent last season on loan at Birmingham City from Portsmouth and is the Premier Leagues' second all time highest scorer with 188 goals to his name, second only to Alan Shearer. He's won everything the game has to offer, from League titles to Champions League trophies. He won't look too shabby in the Garibaldi.
If and I stress if he signs, this will cap off a fantastic summer in the transfer department for Forest and in particular manager Calderwood. It has been a summer of bold and positive news from the City Ground, but then it had to be after the debacle that was Yeovil. It will be a fantastic piece of business if it comes off, or a massive wind up if it doesn't. Watch this space.
