D-Day For Holt

D-Day For Holt

Forest striker Grant Holt has been suffering from a groin strain since the end of last season and suffered a recurrence of the injury in the Brian Clough Trophy game against Derby.

It was hoped that with plenty of rest and time off during the summer, that the injury to Holt would have cleared up. But he went off in the defeat against the Rams after it flared up again.

Forest are in a catch 22 situation at the moment, being down to the bare bones on the striker front. They really need the player to have an operation and sort it out once and for all, but doing this would leave Calderwood woefully short up front. Forest are just trying to nurse him along until Tyson and Agogo are back to full fitness.

Colin Calderwood told the official site. 'Grant could prove to be a long-term problem. To shut it down and get it right could take months. We've got to try to manage the injury as well as possible.' That sounds as though Holt will have to play through the pain barrier with the aid of injections, just to get through games.

Forest were due to give Holt an extensive workout today, then take a look at him on Friday to see what reaction he's had, if any.
