McGoldrick Could Be The Answer

Fresh rumours are going around that Southampton youngster David McGoldrick may be the answer to Forest's front line predicament. The former Notts County player, who was on loan at Bournemouth at the end of last season, was rejected by Forest as a youngster.

It is understood that McGoldrick is unhappy about the lack of first team opportunities that are going to come his way at Southampton this season, and a return to the club he supported as a youngster would certainly interest him.

He made his first team debut for Trentside neighbours Notts County in early 2004, making just 4 appearances before Southampton snapped him up for an undisclosed fee, joining his former team mate Leon Best at St. Mary's. After making starts in both the Championship and FA Cup, as well as substitute appearances in the League Cup - in which he scored -, he returned to Notts County on loan for a month in late 2005.

It was a largely unsuccessful spell, but his latest loan spell at Bournemouth proved he has the skill for League One, and could definitely do a job for the club. He made 12 starts for Bournemouth and scored a goal every two games. Many Bournemouth fans consider him the catalyst of their good run near the end of the season to keep them up.

The loan deal of McGoldrick is very dependent on Derby's bid for Kenwyne Jones. If Jones were to leave the south coast club, manager George Burley will want to sign a replacement before letting another striker go. But there is no doubt he would be a good signing, and not just a month long solution to the injury hit front line.
