'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Famous Last Words

I'm sorry to have to write a moany article this early in the season but I am a bit fed up with reading the same old diatribe about our apparent poor start to the season and the state of the current league table. There are numerous reasons why I feel people should exercise more patience with the team and the management this season and feel I should outline them here:

1. Four games do not a season make. This time last season Forest were top, Chesterfield second and Bristol were in the relegation places - the league table means absolutely bugger all at this stage and we know it!

2. Despite our good start to the season last year, many people still moaned. Proof enough that you just cannot please our lot.

3. The football we are playing is way better than last season and we still have Cohen, Lockwood and Davies in the locker. Tyson is barely match fit and Agogo has just come back from a long injury.

4. People keep talking about our performances against so called mediocre opposition. Bristol Rovers have not lost a league game this season and made a West Ham side packed with quality look very average in the carling cup. We outplayed Leeds and Leicester and got a point at Swansea with our only one truly poor performance being the draw with Bournemouth.

I can understand why people are concerned at the moment as I am not over the moon myself with the current situation. I just think this knee-jerk reaction is doing us no good. If we are still in this position in a months time then fair enough, until then I am retaining the belief that we have a side capable of automatic promotion.

People were whooping only 2 months ago when we signed Cohen, Davies and Lockwood to solve our creative problems, and yet people are willing to crucify us even though they have played just one game between them this term. It just does not make any sense to me.

I know ths viewpoint may be unpopular and If the reds are still struggling for points this time next month then you can shoot me down. Until then, can we please just have a little patience?

It may be an unpopular viewpoint, but it is acurate. Four games is too early to complain. The only thing wrong at the moment is the results and I'm sure they will improve when we have a full squad to pick from. If there is no change in fortunes after that, then that's the time to complain.

The funny thing is that I am a right moany sod myslf. I just feel that much of the criticism being aimed at the club and management is unjust.

And there's no bigger moaner than me. But like you say, it's not the right time. I was one of those moaning last year when we went the first 7 games unbeaten. Simply because we were awful. We are at last playing football and the rewards will come.
