Lennon Wants To Lead Us To Promotion

Reds boss Colin Calderwood pulled off something of a coup in the summer with the signing of former Celtic captain Neil Lennon, despite a host of other clubs chasing him for his signature.

Lennon is at present standing in as captain for Ian Breckin, who is struggling to regain his place after recovering from injury. Many fans think Lennon should keep the arm band anyway and say Breckin is not vocal enough on the pitch. Not exactly an accusation that can be levelled at the former Northern Ireland international.

Despite winning the League Cup twice with Fester, 5 Scots Prem titles, 4 Scots FA Cup wins, 2 Scots League Cups, 40 caps for Northern Ireland and a Uefa Cup final appearance all with Celtic, he told the Football League website that. 'It would be one of the biggest moments of my whole time in football if I could lead this team to promotion.'

That's a bold statement when you consider what he's achieved in the game, but he also gave an insight into how long he intends to be around at the City Ground adding. 'I'd be a very proud man to lead Forest out in the Championship next season.' Most of us were under the impression that he'd stay the season and hang up his boots. If he carries on as he is and there's no suggestion that he's slowing down (pace was never his thing anyway), then he may well get his wish. It may be a little early to be talking of such things, but it does make a refreshing change to hear such positive comments coming from the players, no matter how unbelievable they are.
