'If It's Football, It's Vital'

No Knighthood For Sir Brian

Brian Clough brought success and glory, beyond the wildest dreams to the supporters of Nottingham Forest, along with enjoyment of the beautiful game to millions of other football followers around the world.

It was with this in mind that a petition was organised and sent to the Prime Minister, to ask him to recommend Old Big 'Ead for a posthumous knighthood. The petition asked. 'We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to award Brian Howard Clough, OBE a posthumous knighthood for services to football.'

It is very rare for anyone to be awarded a knighthood after their death, but you can't help but think the government could make an exception for the Great Man. A statement from 10 Downing Street said. 'We fully understand and sympathise with your suggestion for a posthumous Knighthood for Brian Clough especially given the pleasure that his success brought to so many throughout his career.

However, the Prime Minister is not able to make recommendations to The Queen for posthumous honours, as there is no provision in the Statutes of the various Orders of Chivalry. Posthumous honours are restricted to medals awarded for bravery only.'

There were 1,335 signatures on the petition. To view the petition and the governments response, click this link.

a 'don't look at me' is a bit of a non-answer really. SAF can have one but God can't. Disgraceful.

Absolute balderdash. The Great Man should have been Sir Brian many, many, many years before he passed away. SIMPLE AS THAT YOUNG MAN as he would say.
