Our Kids Dad - 3/12/2013 10:37

Like most, I have never knowingly met him (to my utter dismay) - but have exchanged emails, pm's etc on this site for many years.

We've probably stood on the terraces together at some point - anonymous, yet united in our love, frustrations and ultimate support of Nottingham Forest.

That unity, in such tragic circumstances, appears to have put petty squabbles and futile site rivalries in their place.

That is probably the best tribute to Kev and long may that continue!

That & 3 points tonight!

I wont be in the mood for celebration if we win tonight. Likewise, if we suffer another loss, I wont be calling for Billy Davies to be sacked or making judgement on the players. My mood is sombre.

The saying goes "Not a minute goes by without me thinking of...", but I'll be honest, it is more like an hour than a minute. Needless to say, this has occupied a lot of my thoughts over the last 36 hours or so.

I have been consoling myself by repeatedly reading this thread and all the comments elsewhere. That may come across as being selfish, I don't know. Some people may be thinking "Well you never met Kev, didn't know him, so why?", again, I don't know.

A lot of what Kev said about Jim drew him many critics. He was accused of saying such things to gain a greater following on this forum, he was accused of being anti-Forest and the current regime. All I saw was a man showing a great deal of concern about the running of this club and I always wanted to stick up for him, sit in his corner, even when I didn't quite agree with him, because at times it seemed as though he was in a minority of one, and at times, he was very misunderstood. A huge part of me hopes he is proved right on certain matters, and I don't mean that as part of some silly point scoring exercise (That is the last thing on my mind right now). I just hope his hard work, effort and strong beliefs were not all in vain.

I don't want the above to become a discussion point and I have tried to construct it as such that it just reflects my feelings and nothing else. I think I'm going to spend some time away from here whilst I reflect on the last 18 months. I'll be back from time to time and will make an eventual return, hoping that the forum Kev made the success it is today, continues to thrive in his good name.

I miss you Kev. RIP. My thoughts remain with your family and close friends.

Beautifully put chaps.
RIP Guin!

Shocked and saddened to read this tragic news. Had one or two heated debates with Kev but never doubted his passion or love for Forest. Thoughts with his family at such a sad time.

He hasn't, but I'd hope that is because he doesn't know.

From LTLF;

LTLF is saddened to learn that Kev Finnegan, long-time steward of the Vital Forest website, died at the weekend. Mr Finnegan was one of the online Forest community’s strongest voices and was never shy of criticising the way the club was being run. Not everyone agreed with him and his methods, but difference of opinion is an important part of following a football club – Vital Forest and several internet forums will be poorer places for his absence. We offer our condolences to his family.

Shocked: thank you for giving us a voice Kev, and dealing with our drunken nonsense which often degenerated into something far worse. You brought patience and humour to the forum. Vital and NFFC will miss you greatly.

It would be good if the club made a gesture, pain in the bum he may have been at times he was none the less a true fan who did a great service through his generosity of spirit and time for his fellow forest fans.

Thank you

So very sorry to hear the news of Kevs passing. My thoughts are with his family at this difficult time.
In my opinion he did a great job on here and will be sorely missed. It's kinda weird in that I never met the Guy but felt I knew him well.
RIP Kev.

A truly terrible piece of news. Couldn't believe when I saw it on Twitter. Kev was a good bloke and through the few dealings I had with him, proved to be a honest, trustworthy and genuine chap, who like the rest of us, care deeply for the football club and only want the absolute best for it.

He was one of us and it is always a sad day when we lose one of our own, especially out of the blue and so young, too.

Thoughts with the family as such a time.

Very saddened to here this news, thoughts with family.

Forest loses one of our biggest fans, and the forum a fine editor and gentleman.

Although I too never met the man had to say he always ran this forum with a sensibility that will be sorely missed. To all of his family and closest friends go my condolences . The world always seems to take the best ones early. RIP KEV.

Late, but I've been away from forums for a whole and heard via my old man.

Tragic news. We all know Kev did a gruelling and often thankless task moderating this forum 24/7 for however many years, and no one including myself has ever doubted his devotion to NFFC and his genuine concern for its wellbeing.

I disagreed with Kev completely on most of what he had to say editorially over the past 12-18 months. But I do respect people who have the courage of their convictions, and although we never met I know Kev had that in spades. In hindsight I'm glad the debates we had over the ownership etc never got out of hand, and I know had we ever met in person we'd have ended up agreeing to disagree and getting along over a pint, as so many people who've already commented did themselves.

I'd like to think that someone in the Cloud in the Sky Kev is reading these posts as they come in, and laughing his head off. A few months ago, I thought Kev should be retired from the @vitalforest twitter feed. Now, I think it should really be retired in his honour.

I dropped an email about Kev's passing to Adam Pye, Chairman of John Pye & Sons, who gave Vital Forest a very good interview following the announcement of their shirt sponsorship last season - due in no small way I would guess to Kev's pushing.
Adam was needless to say shocked and went on to tell me that he had been in discussions with Kev to do another interview for this forum in the very near future. I can only guess about the agenda, but it would have made very interesting reading. That was Kev - a journalist to the end!
