Hi Folks

I've signed in as my 'site' username as opposed to vitalfootballadmin as the latter looks a bit official for this sort of thing.

Following the devastating news about Kevin, I had some contact with his son, a true gent which is no surprise then on Saturday had the following from Kevin's wife.....

Hi JonathanI wanted to say thank you to you for all the enjoyment Kev got from being the Editor of Vital Forest. I have been a football widow my whole life with him (35 years) and just never thought I would become a real one.

He was massively proud of the work he put into the site and how big it had become, the very very last thing he would want would be
to lose that following and as a tribute to him the site will need a new editor as soon as possible and I would be very grateful if you could make that happen.

I keep expecting to come in and see him writing articles on his laptop, I know he wrote a number on Saturday so spent the day doing things he loved. I have not been up to reading the tributes and comments that have been left on the site but my son and
daughter have shared a few with me. I think I will end this with one comment that 'you might not have agreed with him but he was a true forest fan through and through'.

Perhaps you would be kind enough to put this email on the website to say thank you to everyone for their words and thoughts.

Kindest regards

Jackie Finnegan xx

Very brave to have had this sort of time and to contact I think.

So there you have it. I wasn't really sure when to start the awful process of moving things on, but at their request I am now doing so.

I did, out of respect, offer the site to his son. Quite rightly he declined as he doesn't have the time.

So I am not talking to the person that Kevin said he wanted to take the site over a few months back when he was thinking he might need to step aside (he was hoping not but he did realise some of his opinions were flying in the face of the majority)

If he accepts, I'll be delighted because it will be the continuity that Kevin wanted.

If not, I'll put a site staff member on the site for articles whilst we look at options. There are a good few co-eds set up on the front page (who in due course I will contact to see if they still have an interest)

I also need to check with the current mods/alert team how they feel, if we need more, if so who etc.

It is going to be a bit of a strange process, as Kevin was a long standing ed and had built the site (with all of your help and contributions obviously) to the size it now is.

In the meantime, please do help the mods (and us!) by being respectful etc in posts.

I doubt anyone will have the time, dedication and thick skin that Kev had.

Whoever takes over has a hard act to follow.

Edited to add - obviously whoever takes over will get my full support.

I agree Bourne, Kev is an almost impossible act to follow. But Kev would want Vital to carry on building and being THE forum for Forest fans

Whoever takes on the Editorship of the site has my full support

I think OKD or Galaxy would both be excellent editors if they feel they want it / have the time.

I log on most days and would be happy to help on the alerts / moderation team if it would help any transition.

Also willing to write the odd article / match preview too.

Thanks for the post The Fear - I hope the site continues to blossom and carries on Kev's great work.

I've been alerting Basford and OKD to any inappropriate posts.

As for who takes over, the person has their own decisions to make and I don't think we should speculate as to who they are. They are universally liked and respected though (Which rules me out)

I'm also happy to do a bit more for the site should any help be required. I passed up the opportunity to write articles when Kev put the memo out months ago as I say enough on the forum and there were a number of people who put themselves forward, but if help is needed...

Just a reminder, Kev said it often enough, the site is "for the fans, by the fans" and anybody is free to write an article for the homepage.

Anyway, I spotted this on the NEP homepage earlier;

Nice spot PB!

Equally nice to put a face to a name!

Great message from Mrs Finnegan too, at such a difficult time.

RIP Kev!

Ahh, I wondered where this thread had gone...

From the NEP article;

The time is yet to be confirmed. For further details email finnegan395@gmail.com.

All are welcome to attend and mourners are requested not to wear all black. A wake will follow at Dowlings Irish Bar in Sherwood.

Does this mean the return of Jom?!

Apologies, as you say, we shouldn't speculate
