If this rumour is true, why aren't the club saying something? There's no need for the club to divulge exactly what the illness or issue is, but when a high paid player of a struggling club disappears for two years surely the fans could be afforded at least some kind of update, rather than stringing out an injury over 2 years.

Because it's the players decision and right they respect his wishes.

I disagree, even it's something along the lines of "due to personal issues Matty won't be availale until further notice" rather than the pretence of a long term injury.

At least fans are aware and can be sympathetic, rather than left wondering why he's not been seen for 2 years for heavens sake.

Its none of our business, someones health is absolutely confidential and should always be considered that way whether the individual is making the right or wrong decision

If Matty is poorly then I would hope that what we may or may not think or say is about his 100th priority

As for the cost to the club we have insurance to cover for situations like this so your cost the club circa £2.4m is factually way off the mark and the exact contribution you would expect from someone who has made no attempt to find out the facts and the type of comments that may force someone into divulging information that they would rather not

That applies to everyone including no doubt folks on here who are confronting this right here right now, I have with my son thank god I got a positive outcome but if you think me going into work having to explain to the whole work force why I might be here one minute gone the next helps anyone is beyond me or do you think because you follow Forest you own the fookers private life

You're starting to piss me off with how often we're agreeing at the moment.

Care for a debate on ND and protesting?

This I why I never said anything. We all love a good gossip but sometimes you have to respect people's private life.

Can people please stop pretending to be moderators. As part of the moderation team I can confirm it makes our job all the more difficult.

I suggest you take a break from it or you'll be finding yourself taking a break from the whole site.

Little bit of critisim in this interview for the club that paid him to do nothing for 3 years.

Says he didnt even meet Montanier. Well Matty, he was at the training ground every morning mate.

A bit harsh. It's the managers responsibility to introduce himself to all the clubs staff. It is the managers job to ensure that he is perceived to be taking an interest in his staff at all levels.

At the end of the day, the club have a duty of care towards their staff and in particular in professional sport where you are doing something that puts you at risk of injury.
Not sure what goes on elsewhere and whether this is the norm, but it doesnt show the previous owner or his team in a very good light.
Sounds like an horrific injury though

I see what you are saying, but would meeting Montanier have made any difference at all?

Medical staff had given an appraisal & prognosis - club had already pretty much made their mind up.

It's always a shame when someone is forced to retire in these circumstances.

In laymans terms his career was over years ago and everyone was right not by luck but by judgment The club did too much or at least for too long; theres sentiment and there's reality

Yes it is and I do feel for the lad but are you telling me that it was right that Fryatt, not once in the 6 months or so that PM was the manager, was able to show his face at the academy and meet the manager while he was there?

I hope he was fit enough to play golf.
All those hours to fill and getting paid silly money for it.
Maybe he plays snooker as well though ? I reckon the poor soul didn't have time to pop down to see training occasionally .
