Lam `s future at Forest was done in the summer, his contract will terminate in June, so technically he is not a Forest player any longer (we are just paying the balance of his wages).

Incorrect. He may leave in the summer but he his contract doesn't expire until 2019.

He signed a three year contract in 2016 - http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/36706072

It's always hard to form a proper opinion on players when you don't see the games . In my case I have to rely on every piece of info that I can get my hands on and it's not just Vital either, although Vital comes first. But even then there's so much variation in opinions on here that at times it's nearly impossible to be sure.
But this thread reminded me of some of the other youngsters on our books as well. For quite a while now I've wondered whether some of you might have an over the top opinion of just how good (or bad) these lads are. Loans are one of the pointers that I tend to look at and it's starting to surprise me that some of these loans result in the lad coming back early (perhaps a minority). I'm beginning to wonder whether the success of the lads on loan at Notts for example is the norm or not.
There's a few of you, like Nan for example, who actually see the Academy boys in action but I doubt whether any of you see the lads from other clubs in sufficient numbers to be able to make a decent comparison. And LBL seems to be the only poster with good info on the coming and going of these lads.
I know that the club at times produces a decent player but it's also obvious that it's an expensive business to maintain the Academy.

It's quite obvious that my knowledge is far from complete and I will have no complaints when I'm being shot down.

easy enough to see most first team games nowadays at least but theres plenty of us have to reply on second hand reports for the kids, always been that way tho, if it wasn't wed be getting similar attendences :)

Lets be frank. going out on loan means not good enough. Sure the future might change but football, like politics is a game of today

paz, For me to see a game is not that easy as the match would start at approx 2.00 in the morning and finish round about 4. I used to watch all the FA cup finals and a bit of other stuff but age intrudes eventually and often it wouldn't matter how good the game was , sleep would take over.

Might dispute your view on "loans means not good enough" by adding "at the time". Some of these kids learn, some don't. Unfortunately the majority don't make the first team.

Yeahh I appreciate that mi amigo I just mean in general for folk there's easier access nowadays and a lot more kids highlights and stuff too on the official site etc

my parents go to the reserves regularly (yeah i still call them the reserves) and give good feedback - whats noticeable id say is that every time weve had a player come through it has been quite blatant, these players always stand out from the rest; the burkes o the world.

- Actually Tyler is one that his pace was electric and stood out a mile its thought that he has lost that instant lash o brilliant pace; he did have a bad inury i I remember right?

But yeah I stand by my thoughts that players going out on loan are not good enough NOW and most likely never will be- id possibly suggest thats the case even with the biggest clubs. They might have careers but wont make it to the top

Players out on loan are not good enough for their owner clubs at that point, but I don't agree they won't have good careers. Upson, Terry and Bertrand were all on loan here and went on to play for England. Bertrand was still out on loan from his main club at the age of 25 or 26.

fair points altho we are going to the very top o the tree with some clubs rewriting the rules like Chelski were and there are always exceptions :)

The crux really being timescales nowadays too o course like politics its a short term philosophy that dominates
