Monthly Contract

Lica left Nottingham Forest a year ago today, he has not improved.

The Portuguese attacker is now playing at Belenenses after spells at Estoril and Granada.

On this day one year ago Nottingham Forest finalised the departure of perhaps one of their worst ever recruits. After a slight delay, Portuguese winger Lica left the club to join former side Estoril on loan until the end of the season.

Lica was entirely ineffective at Forest. He played just seven times following his move from Porto and fans of the club were thoroughly disappointed in what they saw from an apparent Portuguese international.

So what has happened in the year since from a player who sums up the worst of the Philippe Montanier era?

Well, not much. He featured regularly for Estoril on loan but did not ignite the same flame he had at the club in his previous spell.

In the summer he finally got himself released from his contract with Forest and managed to agree a contract with Spanish Segunda Liga side Granada until the end of the season.

Once again, Lica failed to impress. He featured in a grand total of just three games for the Spanish side before they, like Forest, decided they had seen enough.

He was sent packing and the 29-year-old now finds himself back in Portugal after agreeing a move to Belenenses earlier this month.

Lica was simply never going to make it in the Championship. His best days were behind him and he was simply not built for the style of play.

But Segunda Liga should have been a better fit … apparently not?

Hopefully he can find some of the form that won him a Portugal cap with his new employers. As for Forest fans, many will forget he even played for them, or at least they’d like to.

Well let's hope the days of Forest making decisions like this to offer him a contract are behind us. The waste is hard to process.
