Rams v Reds Match Preview
Saturday 22nd March
The latest instalment in the us against them A52 saga takes place this weekend live on Sky Television with a new cast of potential villains including former reds manager Steve McClaren & ex reds academy product Partick Bamford.
Bamford 1st Goal 5/1
Paterson 1st Goal 7/1
Goalless draw 7/1
That draw at a little over 2/1 looks inviting.
Derby County Team News:
John Eustace is suspended for this derby so George Thorne may make his debut for the club after joining on loan from West Brom. Will Hughes could also be missing but missing with a groin injury.
Player to watch: Patrick Bamford
Bamford could be handed a start after spending the last two game on the bench to face his former & home town club.
Chris Martin is Derby's top scorer with 18 goals.
Nottingham Forest Team News:
Forest injury crisis is still showing no real signs of abating. Andy Reid limped off with a hamstring injury in only his second game back from injury & while Henri Lansbury and Kelvin Wilson are back training again it may take a while yet before either are ready to start. Chris Cohen, Jack Hobbs & Dexter Blackstock are ruled out for the season and both Eric Lichaj & David Vaughan are expected to miss the majority if not all this season.
Happier news for Rafik Djebbour who should be fit to take his place in the match day squad.
Player to watch: Jamie Paterson
The young winger has just signed a new 4 & a half year contract and has been the main glimmer of hope for the reds through this injury crisis, scoring 5 of Forest's last 9 goals.
Match Facts & Stats
There have been 83 local derbies between these two teams in league football, Forest do hold a slender lead having secured 33 wins with Derby County a little way back on 30 leaving us with 20 drawn matches.
Again Forest lead the way on goals scored in this fixture with the slightest or margins with 129 goals compared to 123 for the Rams. That gives this fixture a goal average of three per game, an average the fixture has only matched once in the last 6 meetings with four on those containing a single goal although there hasn't been a goalless draw between the two since 2002 & only four of those 83 meetings have ended goalless.
Derby are without a win in 4 from which they have failed to score at all, forest are without a win in 7 & have failed to score in two of their last three.
Michael Naylor of South Yorkshire is the man in the middle for this heated local derby & he is a relatively inexperienced official but seems a level headed sort that likes to let the game flow. So far this season from 26 professional games he has awarded just 67 yellow cards which equates to 2.5 per game & has issued a single red card. That red card was to Djamal Abdoun in the Reds City Ground encounter with Blackpool, which I think most agree left the referee with virtually no choice.
He's awarded 4 penalties, one of which of course was for the same Abdoun challenge.
In his career to date he has officiated a total of just 113 games, awarded 288 yellow cards, 10 red & awarded 20 penalties.
Ian Crouch & Dan Robathan will be assisting on the lines with Andy Woolmer
After pointing out this fixture very rarely ends goalless, I'm going for 0-0. Recent form suggest neither team can score.
