Brentford v Forest; A Vital Preview

Brentford
vs.
Nottingham Forest

Griffin Park

Saturday, 12th August, 2017.

3-00pm

Mark Warburton returns to his old stomping ground, as Nottingham Forest face Dean's Smith's Brentford at Griffin Park.

Vital Quotes:

Forest Manager, Mark Warburton gave his pre-match assessment:

'Brentford have a very talented squad which will give us a different kind of game to the one against Millwall, but we're looking forward to the challenge.

It's a tremendous old football ground, with a great atmosphere, a good playing surface and a good team - so, I'm looking forward to going back, seeing some old friends and hopefully delivering a good performance.

I was there a long time. I had tremendous backing and support and I have very fond memories.

With regard to Forest, I was pleased with pre-season and there are no excuses about the first two games but we did get two victories. We were disappointed with the level of performances in both games, because in pre-season we were hitting those levels. So, we've analysed it and we know what we have to do and we are looking forward to the game."

Brentford Team News:

Sergi Canos faces a fitness test to determine whether the tricky winger will feature in Smith's matchday squad.

Much like most sides, the changes made for the Carabao Cup games are likely to be reversed, with Dan Bentley, John Egan, Josh McEachran, Ryan Woods, Lasse Vibe and Jota all expected to return to the starting 11.

Player to watch: Lasse Vibe

The 30 year old Danish Striker scored 16 in 36 appearances last season, including a brace in their 3-2 victory at the City Ground.

Nottingham Forest Team News:

Jamie Ward and Matty Cash both remain sidelined but Stephen Henderson is nearing a return to fitness, whilst Danny Fox and Mustapha Carayol both featured in Tuesday's Cup win over Shrewsbury.

With Warburton changing the starting whole 11 from Friday to Tuesday, it's highly likely that he will revert back to most of the starting 11 that beat Millwall - although, with this being the first away game, will he change the formation and offer Chris Cohen his first league start?

Player to watch: Daryl Murphy

The 34 year old Irish international striker, joined Forest for an undisclosed fee in July, but he may well be disappointed with his City Ground debut, despite Forest securing a home win.

The vastly experienced striker will face a different challenge against Brentford, where he will need to be in form in both boxes.

Match Facts & Stats

Brentford lost their opening fixture 0-1 against the Blades, but secured a 3-1 away win at AFC Wimbledon in the Carabao Cup.

Forest have yet to play away, but have 2 wins from 2, against Millwall & Shrewsbury.

Ref Watch:

Today's Referee is James Linington, his second game of the season - the first, saw him dish out 5 yellow cards.

Last season, he officiated 35 games, with a return of 146 yellow cards and 4 red cards.

Mr Linington will be assisted by Mark Russell and Lee Venamore, with Trevor Kettle as Fouth Official.

Match Prediction:

The Bees are odds on favourites for a home win; which is understandable as they've beaten Forest 5 times in their last 6 meetings - the other a draw in the 2014-15 season.

Forest haven't beaten Brentford at Griffin park since 14th April 2007 - so, a great result would be securing a point against side that have given the Reds a footballing lesson in recent meetings.... 1-1 please!?

Next Fixtures:

Forest face a Tuesday trip to Oakwell, as they take on Barnsley with a 7-45pm KO.
