Forest v Burton; Vital Match Preview

Nottingham Forest
vs.
Burton Albion

The City Ground.

Saturday, 21st October, 2017.

3-00pm

Mark Warburton's Forest welcome Nigel Clough`s Burton Albion Trentside for this afternoon`s Championship clash.

Vital Quotes:

Mark Warburton, gave his views ahead of the Burton fixture and the return of a Forest legend:

'Despite results, I have no doubts about the quality of the squad, their desire and technical ability. If we were losing without creating chances then we have a very difficult scenario, but we just need to take that final step, take the rewards, put the ball in the back of the net and claim the points.

Nigel's affiliation with the club is well documented and we look forward to welcoming him to The City Ground.

There are no easy games, so you have to have respect for your opponents, both home and away. Burton are resilient, hard-working, well-organised, determined and they have quality and pace and power up top - which earned them a point from a good performance against Bristol City, which is a tough place to go. We have analysed them as we do with every other team in the league and we look forward to another tough encounter.'

Nottingham Forest Team News:

Matty Cash is edging closer to a return, but Chris Cohen and Jack Hobbs remain sidelined with knee and back injuries. David Vaughan is expected to return to the match day squad, although there are some concerns whether Liam Bridcutt will have recovered from the injury sustained last weekend.

Muzzy Carayol, Vellios & Ben Brereton will also be hoping to be involved.

Forest just cannot defend, so will Warburton stick with the same side that lost last time out or could Matt Mills, Tendayi Darikwa & Joe Worrall return?

Player to watch: Jamie Ward

Can the curse of the former player actually work in Forest`s favour for once?

The 31 year old Northern Ireland winger will be hoping to feature for just the 2nd time this season, against the side he racked up 18 loan appearances for last season - scoring 4.

Forest have often selected players unaccustomed to the Right Wing position, but Jamie will need to put in some performances to earn his place back in the National side - hopefully, he will get the chance today.

Burton Albion Team News:

Nigel will be hoping to call upon John Brayford, who has not played since September due to a hamstring injury. Sean Scannell and Joe Mason will also face fitness tests to determine their involvement but Will Miller will miss out.

Player to watch: Lloyd Dyer

The 35 year old, much travelled, Brummie joined The Brewers on a free transfer in July 2016 and promptly scored on his debut against Forest last season.

The winger has so far netted twice in 12 appearances after 7 in 44 last season, so he will certainly fancy his chances against Forest`s porous defence.

Match Facts & Stats

Forest have just 2 wins in their last 8 league games, losing last time out to local rivals Derby 2-0.

Warburton`s men are 14th in the table, with 15 points from 12 games (w5, d0, L7), scoring 15, but conceding 21.

Burton have 10 points from 12 games, occupying 22nd position in the table (w2, d4, l6) scoring just 6 and conceding 23 in the process.

The Brewers have just 1 win in their last 8 games, but held Bristol to a creditable 0-0 last time out at Ashton Gate.

Ref Watch:

Keith Stroud has been appointed as this afternoon`s Referee, just his 5th game in charge this season - the previous 4 have seen 21 yellows and 3 red cards. Last season he officiated 39 games, with a return of 171 yellows and 12 red cards.

Mr Stroud will be assisted by John Flynn and Billy Smallwood, with Karl Evans as Fourth Official.

Match Prediction:

Despite their goal difference, The Brewers have kept 3 consecutive clean sheets away from home, which has earned them draws in each fixture.

Forest, who are the Bookies favourites for a home win, in just the 3rd league meeting between the sides have yet to draw a game this season - so, what odds on a 1-1?

Next Fixtures:

Forest take on Hull at the KCOM Stadium on Saturday, 28th October - (5-30pm KO) - but, it`s on Sky - so, no points there then!
