Reading v Forest; A Vital Match Preview

Reading
vs.
Nottingham Forest

Madejski Stadium

Tuesday, 31st October, 2017.

8-00pm

Mark Warburton's Forest face another away day, this time against Jaap Stam`s Reading at The Madejski in Tuesday Evening`s Championship Clash.

Vital Quotes:

Mark Warburton, faced the Press on Monday to give his thoughts on Tuesday`s game:

'I thought it was a good display on Saturday, which warranted the three points but there is no lack of respect towards Reading - there is no doubt they will be tough opposition.

Reading have a good manager, who did a fantastic job last year, so we have no doubts about how organised and passionate they will be and so we have to prepare well.

Their performances have warranted more points than they have secured, which means they are probably in an inappropriate league position, so they will be fighting and scrapping for a result. We are well aware of the quality they possess throughout their team. They have a number of players who featured in the play-off final last year so they are not a bad team suddenly overnight and it`s a challenge we look forward to.'

Reading Team News:

Jaap Stam has an injury list so typical of Forest in recent times, with Tiago Ilori doubtful after suffering a head injury at the weekend. If unavailable, he joins Garath McCleary, Joseph Mendes, Jordan Obita, Jon Dadi Bodvarsson, George Evans, Callum Harriott, and Stephen Quinn all on the sidelines.

Player to watch: Liam Kelly

The 21 year old Irish midfielder is a product of Reading`s Academy, who has managed to net 4 league and cup goals in 13 appearances so far this season, after just 1 goal in 34 appearances for the first team last season.

Nottingham Forest Team News:

Danny Fox will be sidelined for 'several weeks` which sees him join, Jack Hobbs and Chris Cohen in the treatment room.

Armand Traore & Daryl Murphy both face fitness tests to determine their involvement, but could Warburton name an unchanged starting 11 for 2 games running?

Jamie Ward, Matt Mills, Zach Clough & Ben Brereton are pushing for a starting berth, whilst Matty Cash is still hoping to be involved in a match day squad for the first time this season.

Player to watch: Matt Mills

The 31 year old centre half joined the Royals for £2m in summer 2009 and spent just under 2 years at The Madejski, before spells at Leicester & Bolton saw him join Forest (July 2015).

Mills has not featured for Forest since receiving his 5th yellow card in the home defeat to Fulham on 26th September, but could he return to haunt his former employers?

Match Facts & Stats

Forest now have 3 wins in their last 4 league games, which sounds much better than it did prior to the Burton game - although, they are still yet to draw a game this season.

Mark Warburton`s reds are 11th in the table, with 21 points from 14 games (w7, d0, L7), scoring 20, but conceding 23.

Reading have just 1 win in their last 6 games - albeit a creditable 0-1 win at Elland Road. They have lost their last 2 league games, against Boro & the Blades, and have accumulated 12 points from 13 games so far. The Royals occupy 20th position in the table (w3, d3, l7), scoring 11 but conceded 16.

Ref Watch:

Paul Tierney has been appointed as Tuesday night`s Referee, just his 7th game in charge this term, the previous 6 games have seen a return of 21 yellows and 0 red cards. Last season he officiated 32 games, showing 110 yellows and 5 red cards

Mr Tierney will be assisted by Harry Lennard and Matthew Wilkes, with Stephen Martin as Fourth Official.

Match Prediction:

Despite recent results for both sides, Reading are the Bookies favourites for a home win, backed up by winning their last 2 home league games against Forest.

After the victory at the KCom - a point would represent a reasonable return from 2 away fixtures in 4 days, but in typical Forest style, it would no doubt involve scoring at least 1 goal to earn it (1-1?).

Next Fixtures:

Forest welcome QPR to The City Ground this weekend, Saturday, 4th November (KO 3-00pm) before yet another International Break.
